I recommend it for bloggers, journalists, and professional writers who want to correct proofreading mistakes on Mac, Windows, or online while they write. And you need the best proofreading software with all the good features and that works for English? If you’re using one of the low-quality grammar and editing tools. It ate 2 books, I don’t know how many chapters and had the gall to eat a scene I just wrote when I left it open and opened a browser window to check a fact, when I returned to the scene window, the entire scene had been erased. They told me it was my computer after the scene. Then it started eating other parts of book files. I kicked that updated piece of crap to the curb and bought good software that does what Scrivener does without the extra bells and whistles and doesn’t have a huge learning curve. The old Scrivener was solid. This update version is a piece of useless garbage. I have to rewrite I don’t know how many parts of books it cannibalized and two entire books. I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. Now the program I replaced it with,. Yeah, I would. It’s faster and smoother and saves much better than scrivener. I was writing something and closed out only to realize after I hit exit, I hadn’t saved what I just wrote. I restarted and there it was in all its glory. The learning curve was much easier, practically non existent. Every time I use Scrivener, I had to look something up especially if I didn’t use that feature a lot. Everything is set more intuitive. I had to look one thing up and now I know where it is at. There is no frustrated hair pulling. It’s also better for cut and paste than Scrivener. If I moved my work via cut and past to Pressbooks.com, I always had to fuss with the format when I used Scrivener. No fuss with Writeway. It’s also faster. It makes me wonder why I bothered with Scrivener [well okay, I admit it was the half off that made me and the older version was as solid as a tank.] offers the features I needed in Scrivener, it’s faster, it works. What more could I ask for? This is an interesting article but I’m very surprised that “ease-of-use” is applied to Scrivener. I’ve been using Scrivener for years and I’m considering jumping ship because their tools are so clunky and difficult to use. On several occasions I wanted to do something which should have been simple which (despite multiple tutorials and hours wasted searching forums) proved impossible to find or glitchy. I’m starting to think there are different versions of Scrivener: the one that works and is easy to use, and the one I downloaded. If OpenOffice or Word had the notecard/storyboard feature, I’d switch to that and never go back. Hi Kamran, Thanks for getting in contact. In terms of advanced functions, ProWritingAid is probably your best bet. I’ve looked into AutoCrit and while it’s certainly a viable alternative, there don’t seem to be any pronounced features that make it more suited to your needs. Since you’re writing academically, it might be worth giving Grammarly a try, as it’s designed around general, consistent use, rather than improving documents in their entirety. As Alex says, though, it sounds like you’ll need a human editor at some point for the type of in-depth, context-sensitive feedback you describe. Thanks for a great article. After spending several months learning as much as Icould about the purchased program, I also lost a good amount of work on one of my novels, while on the Windows version of Scrivener. While it does do spell checking, I also wish Scrivener had a built in thesaurus. I even wrote them about including the free thesaurus that comes with LibreOffice. They do not answer emails, nor even my questions on their forums, though many forum members are very helpfull. Also Scrivener has a bug when importing documents containg smart quotes. For example, if I import: “Did you go to work today?” Scrivener will change it to: “?Did you go to work today?” When you have a long chapter full of dialogue, it is a hassle to have to go through it and remove all the unwanted question marks. I also contacted them about this bug, but never heard back. So I am looking to jump ship. Perhaps I will try WriteWay Pro. Hi Rob and friends, This is really helpful and informative. I’ve been using Libre Office, but have got fed up with its shortcomings and lack of grammar checking and editing tools. I write – mainly to keep my brain active and for fun at the moment – quite long and complex, multi- character fiction. I’m looking for tools that will work on Windows 10 and help with story arcs, character-building (in the sense of keeping track of age, appearance, relationships, etc.), research on a range of subjects, and grammar/editing.

That's all, now you will not be prompted by the Window 'Do you want google chrome to save your password for this site', save password or nope. Windows Password Recovery Tools. Description ChromePass is a small password recovery tool for Windows that allows you to view the user names and passwords stored by Google Chrome Web browser. For each password entry, the following information is displayed: Origin URL, Action URL, User Name Field, Password Field, User Name, Password, and Created Time. Whenever I enter a login into a new site, Chrome asks me if it should store the login details. I used to believe this was fairly secure. If someone found my computer unlocked, they could get past the login screen for some website using the stored details, but if asked for the password again like during checkout, or if they wanted to login to the service from another device, they would be out of luck. At least, that's what I used to think when I believed the browser did not store the password itself, but a hash or encryption of the password. I have noticed that the browser fills the username and password fields, and the password field indicates the number of characters in the password. I'm one of those people who when asked to change their password just keeps the same password, but changes a number at the end. I know this is bad, but with how often I am asked to change passwords, I really could not remember the number of passwords expected of me. This results in a lot of passwords that are the same, but sometimes I forget what the end number needs to be for a particular login. I could not remember the ending number for a certain login, so I went to a website where the password was stored. I deleted the last couple of characters and tried different numbers and viola, knew what was the right ending number. It seems to me that this is a fundamental security flaw. If I can check the last character of my password without checking any others, then the amount of tries it takes to crack the password grows linearly with the number of characters not exponentially. It seems like a short stride from there to say that if someone came to my computer when it was unlocked, a simple script could extract all of the stored passwords for all of the major websites which I have passwords stored for. Is this not the case? Is there some other layer of security that would prevent this? Chrome not only stores your password text, it will show it to you. Under settings -> advanced -> manage passwords you can find all your passwords for all your sites. Click show on any of them and it will appear in the clear. Hashed passwords work for the site authenticating you. They are not an option for password managers. Many will encrypt the data locally, but the key will also be stored locally unless you have a master password setup. Personally, I use the chrome password manager and I find it convenient. I also, however, have full disk encryption and lock my screen diligently. Which makes the risk reasonable imho. You seem to be inconsistent (many are) by both selecting memorable passwords and using a password manager. And I may venture to guess you may even repeat the password or at least the theme across many sites. This gives you the worst of both worlds. You get the risks of password manager without the benefits. With a password manager you trust, you can give each site a unique random password not memorable at all and gain a lot of protection from many very real attack vectors. In exchange for a single point of failure of your password manager. Even with a less than perfect password manager this isn't an unreasonable trade off. With a good password manager this is becoming the consensus best practice. Edit to add: please read answer explaining how login password and OS support can be used to encrypt passwords, this gives a reasonable level of protection to your passwords when the computer is off/locked (full disk encryption is better) and won't help much if you leave your computer unlocked. ' Alternative to VLC – I’ve used and loved VLC for years but lately it’s been choking and dying for no discernible reason and attempts to troubleshoot have failed. Sadly I have to move on to some VLC alternatives. Are there any other media players better than VLC or comparable alternatives to VLC media player?' As one of the most popular media players in the world, VLC media player gains great reputation for its excellent service in movie playback. However, with the the arising of Blu-ray and copyright protection policies, VLC media player currently couldn’t remain to be the first choice for home movie enjoyment. Many people are trying to find a VLC player alternative, or even some player that’s better than VLC media player. This post would share with you different VLC alternatives. It should be noted that some of these VLC alternatives may require you to install 3rd-party add-ons. You need to determine whether or not you would like to switch your VLC to them. Leawo Free Blu-ray Player is an all-inclusive movie player freeware that could play back all kinds of movies, like Blu-ray, DVD, 4K movies, 1080P videos, ISO image file and even movie audios. As a region free Blu-ray player software program, it could help you easily play back the latest released Blu-ray discs without quality loss. It’s also a free DVD player to play DVD discs/folders, an ISO player to directly play back ISO files, a free video player to play up to 1080P HD videos and a free audio player to play even DTS-5.1 audio in lossless quality. KMPlayer KMPlayer would be a good VLC alternative when you are looking for a bit more enhanced software for your PC. One of the major reasons that made KM Player popular is its support for a wide range of formats, such as MKV, OGG, 3GP and FLV etc. And, in general, those who have tried KMPlayer have somewhat been forced to stick onto the player, as KM Player offers a lot, for both common and advanced movie freaks. KMPlayer supports 3D Movies, though it does not consume that much system resources and you can even turn non-3D movies into 3D ones, if you have a 3D glass with you. SMPlayer This VLC alternative is free and powerful enough to handle almost all of your videos, regardless of format. It comes with all the codecs it needs bundled in. It has a built-in ability to remember where you left off in a movie, and what settings you were using, so you can pick right up where you left off. SMPlayer is built on MPlayer, so if you’ve used it before, you’ll be familiar with SMPlayer. You can download subtitles for your film, and you can search for and watch YouTube videos on SMPlayer, too. There are cool filters you can test out, and you can change the playback speed in case you’re out of time but you want to finish the movie. Media Player Classic Media Player Classic is designed to be a compact, no-frills sort of program, yet it does pretty much everything you’d expect from a media player. It works straight from installation without requiring any additional codec packs, except maybe for the most obscure formats. It’s extremely lightweight and uses very few resources while playing. It supports VCD, SVCD and DVD playback, and with the support of DirectShow, it could play media files in a vast array of video format families including: AVI, MPEG, MKV, MP4, MOV, FLV, RM, WMV, MP3, AAC, FLAC, and a whole lot more. Similar to its Windows version, Leawo Free Blu-ray Player for Mac offers multiple media playback solutions for totally free. It could work as region-free Blu-ray player (4K Blu-ray disc supported), free HD video player (up to 4K), free DVD player, free music player, and free ISO file player. You could select subtitles and audio tracks from source media files, or even add external subtitles. The support of audio decoding systems like Dolby, DTS, AAC, TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc. Delivers cinema like movie experience at home with your Mac computer. Buy Camtasia Get Free Trial Get Free Trial “Camtasia gives you the most common and high-return tools you need to create great accessible video everyday.” “No other software comes even close to the quality and versatility of Camtasia.”. Camtasia version 3 for Mac customers provides you with: Stunning video effects Apply Behaviors that are perfectly designed to animate your text, images, or icons. Get a crisp, polished look. I've kind of figured it out. You can add a zoom by dragging a 'Custom' animation onto your clip, then at the end point of the arrow you rearrange the CLIP properties, by default it wanted to edit the cursor properties which is dumb. Then when you want to go back to normal size you add in a scale to fit(assuming you're naturally at 100%). To make it more annoying I wanted to have a zoom in last over 2 clips. So i had to separate and put them on separate tracks, extend the second track 'behind' the first, and then zoom that in. So the first arrow is the custom, the second arrow is a pasted version of the first, and the third is a scale to fit. Steps: 1.Find what section of your video you wish to zoom in on. As your video plays in the Camtasia editor, you may notice that there is a section of that recording that you would like to zoom in on. As soon as you notice this, pause the video playback. 2.Select Zoom-n-Pan from Camtasia's Tool After pausing the video playback where you would like to zoom, select the Zoom-n-Pan tool from the Camtasia tool pan. You will notice another video pane pops up in the top left corner of the screen. 3.Zoom in using the Zoom-n-Pan Selection box As you can see in the top left corner of the screen, there is another pane showing your video. This pane has circular adjustment tabs around it. Use these tabs to close in on the portion of the screen that you would like to focus on. As you do so, you will notice that the main video pane will reflect your changes in real time. 4.Pan out Once you zoom in on a portion of the screen, that zoom level will remain until you pan out. Panning is completed using the same tool as zooming but is done in reverse. Instead of closing in using the adjustment tabs, you expand out to encompass more of the screen. There is also an auto-expand button (shown below) that will automatically pan out the selection to encompass the entire recorded area. 5.Repeat as needed You may repeat these steps as often as needed and Camtasia automatically tracks these changes on the timeline by placing a blue marker. Select a blue marker and you can make adjustments to any zoom or pan effect that you have added to this point. Click the link for more about essays. Update Needed message will be shown. Mac OSX 10.5 or later In Mac OSX 10.5 or later, Apple recommends to set the $JAVA_HOME variable to /usr/libexec/java_home, just export $JAVA_HOME in file ~/. LightScribe Disc Cover for Mac. Over the years, like so many LightScribe fans, I have been frustrated by the lack of great labeling software for Mac users. The free software is too basic (Simple Labeler) and many of the existing paid softwares don’t work with Yosemite, let alone El Capitan. What is crazy about that is that right now Epson has their on sale for $59- so for a mere $25 dollars more you could get a complete printer that does full color/fast excellent quality printing directly on printable disks instead of doing the monochrome LightScribe method! I've used all the Epsons that do direct to disk printing (including the R280) and I sure would not give up full color high resolution edge-to-edge printing myself- but to each their own! Hope you find something that works good for you! Special Discounted Order Page Use the link below and you will be taken to the special order page with the 20% discount already applied. Apple with Safari 10 preinstalled, but Mac users still running the latest versions of OS X El Capitan or OS X Yosemite can now download the all-new version of the web browser too from the Mac App Store. Well, I'm quite irritated at this so-called upgrade. In improving Auto-Fill from contacts cards (something I never did), it managed to wipe out the ability for Safari to remember text that was last typed into a certain kind of field on a page. I use a manuscript management system that contains form letters that I need to send out a couple times a day. I used to be able to start typing someone's e-mail address and the field would auto-populate with the last e-mail address that was in that field. Sep 24, 2018 - For Mac computers, the Safari web browser is installed and updated as part of macOS. For PCs, Safari updates are no longer available. The only option I'm given is to choose someone from a contact card. Thanks, Safari. ** EDIT ** I went back in to this manuscript system after my mini-rant, and now Safari is filling in the information again. I have no idea. Sweet, I found a terminal command to set minimum font size for Safari 10, I'm on Yosemite, but imagine it should work for El Capitan and Sierra defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2MinimumFontSize -int 24 The 24 value at the end can be changed to any desired minimum font size preferred.
